Kalamata PDO olive oil of unsurpassed quality canned. One of the best olive oils in all of Greece. It all started in the Hellenic church of Messinia where the Drakopoulou family installed the first machines for processing the olives. Since then, the company has grown into a major exporter of Kalamata PDO olive oil and olives.
After collecting the olives (koroneiki), they are taken directly to the olive mill. First the olives are washed with water. After this, the olives go to the machines where a pulp is made of them. The olive pulp is massaged for 30 minutes at a low temperature of 27°C. The olive pulp is then separated from the core and other parts. The olive oil is transported to stainless steel tanks. The quality of the olives and the low pressing temperatures produce an olive oil with unaltered nutritional characteristics and particularly low acidity. Due to the excellent processing methods used by Astir, the olive oil remains unchanged for 24 months.
