Double-smoked large herring (regga / ρεγγα) as the Greeks like to eat it. This herring is smoked in beech wood to bring out all the flavour and ripeness of the fish. The ideal accompaniment to lentil soup (vasolada) or a delicious snack to accompany ouzo and tsipouro.

The herring is a game fish that lives in cold waters and forms large schools. It has been a basic food source since at least 3000 BC, possesses a high content of Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, phosphorus and selenium.
