Suzukakia, seasoned meatballs in tomato sauce

Ingredients for 4 persons:
  • 500 gr lean beef mince, lean lamb mince is also possible
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1/6 Packet of breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 clove of garlic chopped
  • 1 teaspoon paprika powder
  • 1 dash of milk
  • Salt, pepper
  • A dash of olive oil


Ingredients for the sauce:
  • 1 chopped onion
  • Olive oil
  • 1 packet of pomodoro passato ( Kyknos )
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree ( Kyknos )
  • 700 ml water
  • Salt, pepper, pinch of cinnamon and cloves
  • Optionally bachari
  • Small amount of freshly grated nutmeg


  1. Mix the minced meat with all the ingredients very well until it becomes a smooth mass. Then make long balls, flour them and fry them in olive oil until brown.
  2. Meanwhile, heat a frying pan with olive oil, fry the onion, add the tomato puree, fry for 1 minute, add the rest of the sauce ingredients and bring to the boil. Add the suzukakia (meatballs) and cook over a low heat for 45 minutes until done. If the sauce is not thick enough, remove the lid from the pan for the last 10 minutes.
  3. Serve with rice and a Greek salad.
