Tentura is an authentic dark cinnamon liqueur from the city of Patras in the north-west of the Peloponnese. Even among Greeks, this drink is still relatively unknown. It has a sweet, spicy taste of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Definitely worth a try.
Tentura is a liqueur produced in the Greek city of Patras since the 15th century. Tentura is prepared by sweetening different types of distilled alcohol and flavouring them with herbs and spices. Brandy from the vineyards of Patras is the most widely used alcoholic base. The fermented flavours of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and citrus fruits are the most widely used. These aromatic ingredients give the wine its characteristic dark, orange-red colour.
Here and there, Tentura can be found on the drinks menus of Greek restaurants in the Netherlands. The drink is usually drunk as a digestive. A good combination with a cup of coffee or espresso. It is also a good companion for dessert, and indispensable in many cocktails.
